RSS activist murder case: CPI(M) leader granted bail

New Delhi: A court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to CPI(M) leader and former MLA P Jayarajan, an accused in the case related to the murder of an RSS activist in 2014 being investigated by CBI. Principal Sessions Judge V G Anil Kumar granted conditional bail to Jayarajan, who was admitted to an ayurveda hospital two days ago after he complained of some health problem while he was lodged in the jail in Kannur.

Granting the bail, the judge said Jayarajan should not enter Kannur district for the next two months and should not attempt to influence witnesses and must present himself before the investigation officer whenever summoned. The bail would be cancelled if any complaint was made against Jayarajan, the court said. Meanwhile, CBI officials said they would decide whether to go for an appeal against the bail order after receiving the copy of the verdict.

Jayarajan is the 25th accused in the case related to the killing of 42-year old RSS district functionary Manoj on September 1, 2014 in politically volatile Kathiroor in Kannur district allegedly by a group of CPI(M) workers. Charges were framed against him under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Jayarajan was in judicial remand after his bail plea was rejected by the Kerala High Court on February 12 following his surrender in the district session court here.
