Ryot carries his Wife’s body barefooted across river

Adilabad: Rathod Ram is a farmer from Umri Village in the district. The deceased and the farmer had borrowed over 1 lakh from bank and private money lender.

Narnoor Sub-Inspector, M. Vijay said: the deceased, Pushpalatha (32 yrs), wife of Rathod Ram, tries to end her life by consuming pesticides. She was disheartened as their cotton crops, which grown in over 5 acres were destroyed by recent heavy rains. Ram was working in the field when his wife took this ex treme step. He grew suspicious when she lost her consciousness.

The hapless farmer carried his wife barefooted on his shoulders for 3 kms, crossed Umri Vagu, a stream after she attempted suicide. However, she was declared brought dead by doctors of Narnoor Government Hospital. This incident happened on Monday and came to light on Tuesday.

Rathod’s attempt to reach out to medical institute failed as their village lacked navigable roads. He carried his wife across a river and then drove her to Narnoor PHC 8 km away, but his efforts were in vain.

The villagers said, the absence of roads and medical facilities in the village were endangering the lives of locals.
