Sahib’s killing by cops: villagers refuse to perform last rites until justice is done

Panipat: Jamiat Ulama United Punjab, MLAs, former ministers and others organised a Mahapanchayat protesting the gunning down of a youth by police on August 7. They demanded justice for the victim and arrest of the policemen responsible for the killing. They told that the man’s body will not be buried until the arrest of guilty police officers and withdrawal of cases against innocents. It must be noted that the body of Muslim youth is kept in the deep freezer in official custody. People of minority community refused to perform funeral rites till justice is assured.

An ‘innocent’ 22-year-old youth was gunned down on Tuesday night by Uttarakhand Police personnel. Sahib of Naheda village was killed in Patakpur. On Tuesday night, the Uttarakhand Police had a clash with goons. While the police didn’t shoot the goons, they gunned down an innocent.

The villagers demanded immediate action against the policemen involved and compensation of Rs 50,000 for his family. Following a three-hour-long mahapanchayat, villagers sat on dharna with Sahib’s body, refusing to bury him till their demands were met.
