Saudi Arabia: Indecent scenes of women wrestlers telecast on govt. TV, officials apologize

Jeddah: Saudi officials apologized on the issue of telecasting indecent scenes of women wrestlers on the government’s TV.

It may be mentioned that in collaboration with WWE, Greatest Royal Rumble was organized in Jeddah. Although the women wrestlers were not contesting for the competition, they were shown on the larger screens as part of the advertisement program.

These scenes were shown not only on the official TV of Saudi Arabia but also on other TV channels.

It may be noted that despite lifting the ban on wrestling, women are not allowed to participate in these competitions. There were 60,000 spectators to watch this event including women and children. Although official TV of Saudi Arabia immediately stopped these scenes, by that time, they were recorded on the cellphones of the people who shared them on social media. This created a lot of turmoil and criticisms against the TV Channel. However, the officials of Saudi Arabia apologized later.

It may be pointed out that Saudi Arabia has entered into an agreement with WWE for conducting wrestling competitions in various cities of the kingdom for the next 10 years in which world fame wrestlers would participate.
