Saudi confirms 2016 Jeddah Suicide attacker was Indian not Pakistani

Mumbai: Saudi Arabian authorities have confirmed the suicide bomber who blew himself outside US consulate in Jeddah two years back was an Indian through a DNA test.

The DNA sample of the suicide bomber was sent by the NIA as a part of growing cooperation in fighting terrorism between Saudi Arabia and India.

The Saudi Authorities had previously identified the bomber as Pakistani national Abdullah Qalzar Khan. The image released by the authorities was identified by Maharashtra Anti-terrorism Squad who identified the picture as one resembling Indian terrorist Fayaz Kagzi.

Officials told the man Fayaz Kazgi was a wanted fugitive in India after he was found involved in various bomb blast including the 2010 and 2012 Pune blasts and the 26/11 Mumbai blast.

Kazgi had reportedly escaped from India in 2006 and reached Pakistan via Bangladesh. He chose Karachi to setup is base to carry out attacks the officials said.

The officials said he later moved to Saudi Arabia to recruit Indian working with the Lashkar-e-Taiba group.

The NIA had sent DNA sample to Saudi Arabian authorities for confirmation who told Indian authorities the DNA matched that of Jeddah attacker.

Three suicide bomb attacks were carried out in Saudi Arabia, one outside the US Consulate in Jeddah by Kazgi, one outside al-Masjid an-Nabawi, second holy site after Mecca, where Prophet Mohammed is buried and the third attack was carried out at a Shia mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia.
