Saudi employers can’t withhold employees’ passports without consent – Here’s list of other violations

Riyadh: Ministry of Labour and Social Development of Saudi Arabia revised the list of violations and penalties.

According to the revised list of violations and penalties published in Saudi Gazette, a fine of SR 10,000 will be imposed on employers who violate the provision of holidays for employees mentioned in Labour Law.

A fine of SR10, 000 will also be imposed if employers allow non-Saudi employees to work in any profession other than the one mentioned on a work permit. The same amount of fine will be imposed if employers fail to submit Wage Protection file to Labour Office every month.

List of violations also includes withholding of employees’ passports, Iqamas, medical insurance cards without their consent. Violation of this provision may attract a fine of SR2,000.

Health and occupational safety of staff are also important as failure to meet this requirement, a penalty of SR 15, 000 will be levied.

It may be mentioned that employers have to pay double the fine amount if the violation of provisions is repeated.

This list of penalties and violations is approved by Ali Al-Ghafees, Minister of Labor and Social Development.
