SC extends house arrest of Civil Rights leaders

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has extended the House Arrest of Civil Rights activists— P Varavara Rao, Vernas Gonjalez, Arun Ferira, Sudha Bharadwaj and Goutham Navlakh’s up to September 17.

It may be mentioned here that the five activists were arrested by Pune police in connection with the Beema Koregao riots case alleging that they have links with the banned outfit of CPI Maoists. The Supreme Court imposed House Arrest on them till September 12 while reacting on a petition filed by eminent historian Romilla Thapar challenging the arrests of five activists, instead of judicial remand.
