SC to hear Aadhar related pleas next week

New Delhi: The apex court on Monday has asked all the petitioners to mention their Aadhar related pleas next week for the extension of interim relief on linking of the biometric identity with the bank accounts and sim numbers.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud had asked senior counsel Shyam Diwan to mention the matter next week.

Earlier the deadlines for linking of Aadhar with bank accounts and mobile numbers was mentioned as 31 December 31, 2017 and 6 February 6, 2018 respectively.

The court had earlier stated that a new bench will be constituted in the last week of November to hear all Aadhar related pleas.

Former Karnataka High Court judge Justice K.S. Puttuswamy and others have already filed petitions challenging the validity of Aadhaar Act on the ground that it violates the fundamental right to privacy.
