SC slams Yogi’s government for poor maintenance of Taj Mahal

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government was slammed by the Supreme Court on Wednesday for the poor maintenance of the Taj Mahal and asked it to show seriousness in preserving the monument.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government was asked by the two-judge bench which was headed by Justice S A Bobde to file a fresh vision document in four weeks with respect to the steps it wanted to take in the preservation of the monument.

“We are very serious and concerned for the preservation and maintaining a proper standard of one of the world’s seven wonders,” stated the bench

Archaeological Survey of India in its report on Taj Mahal in December last year, said the monument colour appeared to have changed due to the pollution in Agra.

From the last few years, Supreme court, now and again, has been asking the state and the central government over the issue of degradation of Taj Mahal.

Earlier the Supreme Court sought detailed suggestions to preserve the historic Taj Mahal from respective parties in the case pertaining to maintenance of the monument. The parties include the main petitioner MC Mehta, CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) and Uttar Pradesh Government, among others.
