SCO will continue to work on counter-terrorism: Envoy

Qingdao: India’s Ambassador to China, Gautam Bambawale, on Friday said the eight-member Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will continue to work on counter-terrorism.

“SCO has been working and will continue to work in counter-terrorism,” Ambassador Bambawale told ANI ahead of the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit scheduled to be held on June 9-10.

While the SCO works on different and wide-ranging areas like defence and security, counter-terrorism Ambassador Bambawale said, is a significant part.

Furthermore, the envoy said the most significant document of the Qingdao SCO Summit will be the Qingdao Declaration, which will comment “something” on counter-terrorism.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was formed in 2001. Among its members are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, India, and Pakistan.

In May, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited China to take part in preparations related to the SCO Summit.(ANI)
