Scooter sales at an all-time high, 41% growth in Bihar over last six years: Honda

New Delhi: Bihar has taken a liking for scooters with sales rising 41 percent in the past six years, as against 20 percent in the country, according to Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI).

“Honda has created a new record of its highest-ever sales in Bihar in 2017 of over 38,000 units in April-June 2017-18,” Yadvinder Singh Gularia, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, HMSI, told reporters here. During the period, HMSI sold 33,29,045 scooters in the
domestic market including exports. “Demand for Honda two-wheelers has increased 4.5 times in the last six years.

Gaining customers trust in just six years, Honda two-wheelers doubled its market share. “In six years, Honda’s two-wheeler sales have grown by 33 percent which is nearly double the 18 percent two-wheeler industry growth in Bihar.

This aggressive growth has supported Bihar to make an entry into top 10 two-wheeler markets of India in just six years,” Guleria said. Guleria also said HMSI is looking to substantially increase its festive sales this year. The company has launched two new models in scooters — Cliq and Africa Twin — and will surprise customers with another two models lined up for launch in the coming months this year.

The company has 165 outlets in Bihar at present. It plans to add 20 new ‘touch points’ in a year. Of its overall
network, 70 percent are rural-centric, the company said.
