Senior Journalist Vinod Verma sacked for extortion charges

New Delhi: Senior Journalist Vinod Verma was arrested by Uttar Pradesh police from his Ghaziabad residence on allegations of extortion.

A member of the Editors Guild of India who had earlier worked for BBC and Amar Ujala, Journalist Verma was taken to Indirapuram Police Station around 3.30 am for questioning after his early hour arrest in the morning.

According to the sources, Verma who was in possession of an alleged sex tape of Chattisgarh Minister allegedly made extortion calls to the Minister.

Verma is working as a consultant to Bhupesh Baghel Chattisgarh Congress president said the sources.

Uttar Pradesh Police in its tweet said, “Verma has been arrested by Chhattisgarh Police in a case of extortion registered at Pandri police station (Raipur)”.

The Police said Verma is charged under sections of extortion, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement.

AAP spokesperson Ashutosh reacting to Verma’s arrest, tweeted: “Vinod Verma Ex BBC n Amar Ujala Digital Editor has been picked up most mysteriously by UP N Chhattisgarh Police 3.30am. Attack on press?”
