Sensex, Nifty trade flat as index heavyweights lose

Mumbai: Amid broadly positive global cues and selling in index heavyweights, major Indian equity indices traded flat during Friday’s afternoon trade session.

Except for energy, oil and gas sector on BSE all the other sectors traded lower.

NSE Nifty Media index lost the most, declining over 1 per cent while telecom and healthcare lost the most on BSE.

At 2.02 p.m, the S&P BSE Sensex traded 4.03 points or 0.01 per cent higher at 36,378.11 after touching an intra-day high of 36,469.98 and a low of 36,218.33.

It opened on Friday at 36,417.58 from its previous close of 36,374.08.

The broader Nifty also traded higher by 1.15 points and 0.01 per cent at 10,906.35.

Stock-wise, Sun Pharma lost the most on Sensex, declining 12 per cent. It was followed by Bharti Airtel that was down by 6 per cent.

Other top losers were Axis Bank, Larsen and Tubro, Tata Motors (DVR), who lost in the range of 1 to 2 per cent.

In contrast, Reliance Industries was the top gainer on Sensex, trading over 2 per cent higher after it announced its third quarter results on Thursday.

The other top gainers on Sensex were were ONGC, Kotak Mahindra, HCL Tech and Asian Paints which rose up to 1.50 per cent.
