Septuagenarian drowns in Yamuna river

Mathura: A 71-year old elderly drowned in the Yamuna here today after he slipped while trying to drive his cattle out of the river, police said.

The incident occurred at Sher Nagar village in Kosi Kalan when Ranjeet Singh in his attempt to stop his buffalo from trying to go too deep into the river himself slipped and drowned, they said.

“When a few children grazing goats nearby raised an alarm, the villagers rushed to the spot and fished out Singh’s body who had already died,” a police personnel said.

“His body has been sent for post-mortem,” he added.
