Seven killed in car-bus collision

Mehsana: Seven people were killed today when their car jumped a divider and landed on the other side of the road before being hit by a bus coming from the opposite direction on the Unjha-Mehsana highway here, police said.
The accident took place near Moti Dau village here this morning and all seven occupants of the car were killed on the spot, Inspector A B Gohil of the Mehsana taluka police said.
The victims, all in their early 20s, were friends and were returning from Banaskantha district, Gohil said.
“Four of the deceased were students of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) in Gandhingar. A son of an Ahmedabad-based police inspector and two brothers also died in the accident,” the inspector said.
The deceased were identified as Brijesh Kakadia, his brother Gopal Kakadia, Monang Jadvani, Divyapal Zala (Inspector Jorubha Zala’s son), Aditya Patel, Uday Pandya and Mukund Koradia.
They were returning from Banaskantha and the driver lost control near Moti Dau, Gohil said, adding that it was not clear who among them was driving the vehicle.
“Prima facie, it appears that the driver car might have dozed off at the wheel,” Gohil said.
“The car first hit the divider and collided with a bus after landing on the other side of the road. Due to the impact, the car got completely damaged, leaving all of them dead. We have lodged a case of rash driving against the car driver, who is also dead,” Gohil said.
