Shailesh Sotta sticks to ‘daadhi-topi’ remark: Must oppress, threaten ‘anti-social elements’

Vadodara: Despite being served a notice on Wednesday for a contentious remark, BJP corporator Sailesh Mehta Sotta stood by his comment against Muslims on Friday as well.

The BJP candidate from Dabhoi in a video on Friday sought to “reduce the numbers” of those in “daadhi (and) topi” (Muslim men).

With UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, present on the stage, Sotta used words “anti-social elements” apparently referring to Muslims — such elements, he said, “must be oppressed and threatened”, quoted The Indian Express.

Without naming the minority community, Sotta said: “For the last two days all national and international news channels have highlighted my comments on anti-social elements. They thought Shailesh Sotta will get scared of the limelight. But I maintain my stand: these anti-social elements must be oppressed and threatened.”

The notice served to Sotta had sought an explanation for his action within a day’s time, post which, the EC could proceed as per the procedure.
