Sharad Yadav slams UP administration for postponing Rahul’s Amethi visit

New Delhi [India]: Janata Dal (United) rebel party leader Sharad Yadav, on Sunday dubbed the decision of postponing Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’ s visit to his Lok Sabha constituency by the Amethi district administration as undemocratic.

“Rahul Gandhi has won from that Constituency and is the vice president of India’s second largest party. That constituency means more to him than his own home.” Yadav told ANI.

Yadav further said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should have called Gandhi and requested him to postpone his visit.

“When Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister, I had a program in Allahabad, he called and told me that you don’t come here as the situation is not alright.,” Yadav said.

Echoing similar sentiments Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar, castigated the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and warned it of consequences.

“To not let a representative minister meet his own people, is an enforcement, it is the killing of democracy.” Babbar told ANI.

Babbar further said that many governments have come and gone but none has denied any minister to meet his own people, this is shameful, saddening and a cowardly act of the BJP ministers.

Gandhi has been the Member of Parliament (MP) three times from the Amethi.

Amethi District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar earlier in the day requested the Congress district president to reschedule the visit of Gandhi, in view of Muharram and Durga idol immersion.

Gandhi was scheduled to visit Amethi from October 4 to October 6.

In a letter to the Congress district president, Kumar said that the majority of police force will be engaged in maintaining law and order in the district till October 5.

This is the first visit to Amethi by Rahul Gandhi since February 19 when he had addressed an election rally in his constituency. (ANI)
