Shelter home case: No leniency for guilty, says Nitish Kumar

Patna: Taking stern note of the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday assured that no leniency will be shown towards the culprits.

Addressing a gathering at “Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana” programme, Kumar said, “This incident has ashamed us. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case. The High Court should monitor this case.”

On July 24, 11 employees of the girls shelter home in Muzaffarpur were arrested for allegedly sexually harassing the girls. On receiving information, the police raided the vicinity and rescued 44 girls.

Further promising strict action, Nitish asserted that all those found guilty will be severely punished.

“I would like to assure everyone that no leniency will be shown towards anyone, all those found guilty will be severely punished,” the Chief Minister added.

The incident that came to light more than a month ago has invited a huge outrage in Bihar, with Opposition demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has also called for a nationwide strike on August 4 in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the incident.
