Shocker: Marriage turns ugly, Bride’s family thrash ‘baraat’ for chicken

Bareilly: Marriage ceremonies are usually a part of joy but when strange incidents such as a food item become the debate then this happiness can leave bitterness among the parties.

One such incident is reported from UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri district where the marriage was called off because more members of ‘baraat’ appeared for the wedding.

A usual happy wedding turned ugly when the groom reached the venue of the marriage along with the ‘baraat’. To his surprise, the bride’s members ended up thrashing the baraat members rather than welcoming them, TN reports.

According to reports, the ‘chicken dish’ was the main reason behind this ugly turn of events as the bride’s family became upset when an additional 15 guests arrived from the groom’s side.

The two parties had decided there will be a total 50 guests at the baraat but to their shock 60-70 guests arrived at the venue and an argument started between the two families as the chicken dish was prepared for only 50 members.

The heated situation went out of control when the groom’s uncle and two other family members were allegedly thrashed by the bride’s relatives which resulted in the cancellation of the marriage.

Things came under control only after the police intervened.

The injured groom’s uncle was admitted to a nearby hospital after the incident.

“Both the villages are situated at a distance of merely 150 metres and the families had several common relatives. Since the girl’s family was very poor they requested the groom’s family to come in limited number of guests. Chicken was specially prepared on the request of groom for the guests. But after seeing 15-20 extra guests the girl’s family asked the groom to reduce the number of guests. But it was taken as an insult by the groom’s family and groom’s uncle abused the other party which triggered the clash at the venue and the marriage was called off,” the report quoted Sub-Inspector Suneel Kumar, In-charge of Sundarbal police post of Phoolbehar police station said.
