Shocking case of ‘Honour killing’ resurfaces in UP

Kanpur: In a case of ‘honour killing’, the local police arrested Satya Narain and his wife Asha for allegedly strangulating their 18-year-old daughter Aarti to death at their house at Naholi village in Gajner police station area on Thursday.

The accused have been sent to judicial custody after being produced before a local court. After several rounds of questioning, the parents confessed to the crime and claimed to have killed Aarti while she was sleeping.

During the investigation, it was found that Aarti had an affair with a local youth and her parents were against it. They even warned her several times to break her ties with the youth, but Aarti refused to listen to them.

On January 7th morning, Aarti’s body was found lying on bed under mysterious circumstances. Few injury marks were also spotted around her neck.

Satya Narain, who works as a farmer, initially told his neighbours that his daughter died due to prolonged illness. Later, one of the neighbours informed the police which rushed to the spot and sent the body for autopsy.

According to the Circle Officer of Kanpur Dehat Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, the postmortem report confirmed Aarti’s death occurred due to strangulation.

On the basis of the report and a complaint filed by the victim’s uncle Girja Shankar, the police have registered a case of murder against the parents under IPC section 302. (ANI)
