Hyderabad: In a shocking revelation, a city-based man busted a major international kidney selling racket after he approached the Rachakonda Police leading to arrest of three persons from Noida and Delhi.
According to the Police, at least 40 people have fallen prey to this kidney selling racket from across India who was taken to different hospitals across the world to avoid getting caught, TOI reports.
The racket came to light after a Hyderabad-based victim was cheated of Rs 20 lakhs when he was refused the amount after his kidney was extracted in Turkey man.
Police initial investigations have revealed that hospitals in Turkey, Egypt and Sri Lanka were used for this international racket.
The Rachakonda Police are now verifying the alleged kingpin Amrish Prathap from Noida and his links to China, Iran and Vietnam according to his business trips.
Based on Amrish’s the other two accused Sandeep Kumar alias Rohan Malik and Rithika Jaiswal both residents of New Delhi were arrested in Delhi four days ago and brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant on Monday.
Amrish is reported to have been detained at New Delhi Airport by immigration officials after he landed from Singapore on March 28 as there was a pending ‘look-out notice’ against him.
The police stated the kingpin Amrish has links with doctors, the staff of diagnostic centres, government officials and brokers which he used for approaching prospective donors desperately in need of money.
“At the same time, Amrish also searched for rich patients who could spend around ?50 lakh to Rs 1 crore for kidney transplantation,” police statement said.
Amrish has successfully conducted at least 40 transplantations by sending patients and donors to Western Hospital, Colombo (Sri Lanka); Al-Fahad Hospital, Cairo (Egypt); and Kent Hospital, Izmir (Turkey).
It was after receiving a complaint from the victim on Feb 5, Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat he started investigating the case.
The victim had captioned ‘Kidney needed in India’ with a profile name ‘Rohan Malik’ on a Facebook post in July 2018.
Speaking at a press conference, Commissioner Bhagwat said: “On seeing the post, the victim contacted Rohan Malik on his WhatsApp number 9650121463. Rohan told the victim that they would pay him a huge sum if he sells his kidney. They even assured to provide him expenses for transportation, accommodation, documentation and medical examinations. The victim, to meet his financial needs, accepted the offer of Rohan who promised him Rs 20 lakh.”
The victim was received by Rohan when he arrived at Delhi and provided accommodation at Radisson Hotel in Noida where he stayed for one week to undergo medical tests.
Rohan got PCC (Police Clearance certificate) for the victim before he was sent to turkey.
Rohan then contacted the victim on Aug 11 and informed him about his reservation to undergo the operation in Turkey.
The victim was then introduced to one ‘Dr Rithika Singh’ of Delhi at Hotel Lemon Tree, Delhi who in turn introduced him to the donor receiver Gagan Agarwal and his family members.
“Before travelling to Turkey, Rohan and Rithika prepared forged documents so as to get the surgery performed at Kent Hospital, Izmir, in Turkey,” the commissioner said.
On Aug 14, 2018, the accused sent the victim Gagan Agarwal along with his family to Izmir in Turkey along with a translator.
“After reaching Izmir, Amrish and Dina, a Turkish national, received them and conducted more tests at Kent Hospital. On Aug 27, the kidney transplantation was conducted. But after the surgery, Amrish refused to pay the promised money which led to a dispute. The victim pleaded them to at least return his passport. The accused threatened him to not disclose the transplant to anyone,” police said.
