Singapore: Indian National sentenced to 12 weeks Jail time

Singapore: An Indian national in Singapore was sentenced for 12 weeks prison time for killing two persons and injuring another in an accident that dates back to 2016.

The 36-year-old Indian national was also banned from driving for the five years on Thursday.

According to the reports, the accident happened along the West Coast Highway when Sahadevan Senguttuvan, a trailer driver by profession suddenly rammed into three electric bike riders on October 27, 2016, killing one of them on the spot while injuring the other two riders, PTI reports.

Mr Senguttuvan had pleaded guilty for the crime in the court said Channel News Asia.

The accused had been working overtime that day and has been reported to have worked for more than 12 hours, since 7.20 am.

The three victims identified as Ang Yee Fong (25), Ong Zi Quan (18) and Marcus Loke Teck Soon (18) were on their e-bikes on the leftmost lane in front of the trailer when the mishap occurred.

The accused waited until the ambulance arrived said the report.

The investigation report added Ang was declared dead at the accident spot, Zi Quan died soon after in hospital, while Marcus suffered abrasions, bruises and a fracture on his finger.

At a coroner’s inquiry last year the accused said he panicked when he saw the e-bike riders, and made no attempt to brake before the collision.

“I tried my best. I didn’t want to hit them,” he said during the coroner’s inquiry.
