IT sleuths recover Rs 1 cr, jewellery from medical labs

Bengaluru (Karnataka): Over Rs 1 crore, foreign currencies, jewellery and bullion exceeding 3.5 kg were recovered in raids conducted by the Income Tax Department at two IVF clinics and five medical diagnostic centres here.

The department officials, in an official statement, stated that the raids unraveled the various methods whereby doctors were being paid for referring medical tests to the labs. These payments were found to be disguised as marketing expenses.

Some of the labs employed commission agents, who distribute money to doctors in envelopes containing a small chit, which had details of the patient, treatment and cuts commission. (ANI)
