Hyderabad: People living within the jurisdiction of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) can be able to register their marriages online on GHMC website soon just like registration of birth and death certificates.
According to the news published in DC, once GHMC frames policy, marriage registration can be done at GHMC zonal/circle offices besides on its website.
To implement Telangana Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act 2002, Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner of GHMC has issued instructions.
However, the decision which is pending is whether the Dy. Commissioner of a Circle or Assistant Medical of the Health Wing can be marriage officer.
It may be mentioned that in 2006, registration of all marriages was made compulsory by apex court. Registration of marriage can be done under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 for Hindus or under the Special Marriage Act 1954 for all Indian citizens.
