South Asian Games torch reaches Agartala

Agartala : The torch of the 12th South Asian Games 2016 reached Agartala from Guwahati yesterday.

The torch was received at the Agartala airport by renowned gymnast Dipa Karmarar from Dr. Biswajit Basumatari, the leader of torch bearer of the organising committee.

Scores of sports enthusiasts gathered at the airport and took out a bike rally.

“I am very happy to receive the torch and it will surely encourage the new sportsman and players of the state. Now, my aim is to take part in the Olympics and bring laurels for my country,” said Dipa.

The torch will be going to all the north-eastern states to encourage young sportsman of the region.

The 12th South Asian Games, 2016 to be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 5 to 16.

Dubbed as the biggest ever sporting extravaganza of the region, the two host cities Guwahati and Shillong are leaving no stone unturned to make the event a grand success.

The 12-day event is expected to witness a large contingent of international athletes from eight participating nations battling against each other to establish their supremacy in 23 different sporting disciplines. (ANI)
