Speaker has authority to take criminal action against unruly Congress members: Jagadish

Defending the expulsion of Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Sampath Kumar and suspension of all the remaining Congress members due to their pre-planned violent behaviour in the House on the very first day of the Budget session on Monday, Power Minister Jagadish Reddy today asserted that the Speaker has full authority to initiate even criminal action against the rogue members of the House.

Condemning the violent behavior of the Congress members in the House on Monday, Jagadish Reddy alleged that the unruly behaviour of the Congress members was not sudden but well planned and orchestrated by saint-faced Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s heinous behaviour of hurling his headphone at the Governor while delivering his address to the joint session of the legislature was pre-planned and executed to disrupt the proceedings of the House on the first day of the session. But Komatireddy’s “missile” missed the Governor and hit and injured the Council chairman K Swamy Goud.

Expressing his surprise over Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy “innocently” questioning his suspension from the House, Jagadish Reddy alleged that Komatireddy was heard saying that he came to the House with a perfect plan to hit Governor ESL Narasimhan only but not
Council chairman Swamy Goud. The Speaker’s strong action against the unruly Congress members, who came to the House only with evil intention of disrupting the Governor’s Address, was totally justifiable and unavoidable, he added. When the Speaker was giving time as they wanted to speak in the House, the wicked behaviour of the jealous Congress members was unpardonable, he added. (NSS)
