Former chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh IYR Krishna Rao has opined that special category status (SCS) to the State would be only a temporary solution and it would not benefit the State in a long run.
Speaking at a conference on “Decentralization, development and High Court in Rayalaseema” jointly organised by Jana Chaitanya Vadika and Foundation for Social Awareness, Krishna Rao said setting up of High Court in the Rayalseema region would have been done long ago. There was imperative need of decentralisation of administration when the government was developing the State capital in Guntur area, he felt.
The former CS said political parties were needlessly fighting for SCS to the State without applying their mind about long-term benefits to the State. He said that if industrialists get concessions under the SCS, after a certain period, they may shift their business after getting benefits of concessions. He suggested to all political parties to readily agree for special grants and other benefits under Special Package which would benefit the State immensely.
