Star Wars’ actor Ahmed Best opens up struggle, criticism

Washington: 20 years after he faced a backlash from the audience for his role in ‘Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace’, actor Ahmed Best revealed how he pulled out of difficult times.

The actor, best known for his portrayal of ‘Jar Jar Binks’, thanked his fans on social media for their constant support during his rough phase.

Best posted a picture of him with his son on Twitter, clicked at the same spot where he thought of committing suicide twenty years ago due to the criticism he received for his ‘Star Wars’ character.
“20 years next year I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life. It’s still hard to talk about. I survived and now this little guy is my gift for survival. Would this be a good story for my solo show? Lemme know.”

In Best’s time, Jar Jar was universally disliked and despised and had even become the butt of every joke on the internet.

Following the tweet, the former ‘Star Wars’ actor received support from fans of the sci-fi series.
“Thank you all for your love and kindness. It’s been overwhelming. I’m gonna start writing this show. Gonna need help cause I’ve never done this before. I will be trying stuff out and posting it here.

Let folks know. Thanks for all your support. It means so very much to me,” he tweeted.

Star Wars is an American space film franchise, centred on a series created by George Lucas, which depicts the adventures of characters from a far away galaxy.
