Describing it as “tacky”, a bronze statue of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Fayed will be removed from Harrods. It must be noted that the statue of the couple, who died in a car crash in Paris two decades ago, has been on display at the west London department store since 2005.
The statue will be returned to Dodi’s father and owner of Harrods Mohamed Al Fayed, who had installed the statue after the death of the couple. Mohammed Al Fayed sold Harrods to the Qatar Investment Authority in 2010 for about £1.5bn.
The store’s boss, Michael Ward, said it is right time to return the statue memorial to Mr. Al Fayed given that princes William and Harry had commissioned their own tribute to their mother at Kensington Palace.
Fayed’s family has expressed thanks to the Qatari Investment Authority for preserving the memorial of the couple.
