Las Hortichuelas, Spain: After the eight-year-old Gabriel Cruz went missing in a small southeastern village, there launched a search operation, where hundreds of volunteers tried to find the child. Gabriel’s stepmother Ana Julia Quezada along with his father Angel Cruz also were on a hunt. To everyone’s surprise, the child’s dead body was found in the boot of his step-mother’s car for whom she had cried crocodile tears.
The 43-year-old Quezada, who had been dating Gabriel Cruz’s father Angel for several years, admitted to her crime, the police said on Wednesday. The separated couple, Angel Cruz and Gabriel’s mother Patricia Ramirez were giving tearful interviews since the eight-year-old went missing after leaving his grandmother’s house on February 27.
When the criminal was announced, it came as a horrible shock for everyone, as Gabriel’s Dominican step-mother was an active part of the large group of people who came together to seek justice wearing t-shirts emblazoned with the child’s face.
Spain’s Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido had announced on Sunday that police had found Gabriel’s body in her car. Quezada gained widespread hate from across the country, including online petitions signed by more than 330,000 people asking for her extradition to serve in prison there so that she would not able to get the comfort of Spanish jails.
