‘We should strive for a nuclear weapon free world’: D. Raja

New Delhi: Expressing concern over the recently conducted hydrogen bomb test by Pyongyang, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Wednesday blamed the United States for pitting North Korea against South Korea and called for collective efforts to make the world free of nuclear weapons.

“We should strive for a nuclear weapon free world. Korean peninsula continues to be a conflict zone. There are forces behind this, US is behind this. They are pitting South Korea against North Korea and opposing the very idea of reunification of two Koreas,” Raja told ANI.

“There are certain political issues involved, but at the same time it is not in the interest of any one country or the world that countries go towards nuclear weapons,” he added.

North Korean media announced that the country has successfully conducted its fourth nuclear test.

According to the Guardian, the Hydrogen bomb test could take North Korea a step closer to developing nuclear warheads capable of striking the United States.

An announcement on North Korean television said that the country had successfully tested a “miniaturised hydrogen bomb” and described it an “act of self-defence” against the US.

The broadcast declared the test as a complete success and said that the procedure was overseen by the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, who celebrates his 33rd birthday this Friday. (ANI)
