Police today arrested a number of students, who were staging protests at several places in the city over leakage of EAMCET-2 test paper.
The students and their parents, who took to the streets due to fear of cancellation of EAMCET-2 paper, have been requesting Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao not to cancel the exam as it would cause further stress and pressure on them. On the other hand, the students’ unions have demanded that Deputy Chief Minister in-charge f Education Kadiam Srihari and Health Minister Laxma Reddy own moral responsibility of EAMCET-2 paper leakage and resign from their posts. The students and their parents gathered at the Secretariat in the morning and raised slogans against leakage of EAMCET-2 paper. However, police intervened and forcibly dispersed them.
While leaving the spot, the students and their parents bemoaned that they were not being allowed into the Secretariat to narrate their woes to the government. From the Secretariat the agitators marched towards the Indira Park to continue their protest. However, the police arrested them at NTR Ghat and shifted them to the Gandhinagar police station. Several students’ unions, including NSUI and ABVP made an attempt to stage a dharna at Ministers’ Quarters, but the police prevented them. The situation turned out to be tense as police started preventing students entering into the Ministers Quarters at Jubilee Hills. The heated exchanges between the students leaders and police created ruckus at the Ministers’ quarters. Students’ unions raised slogans against the TRS government. (NSS)
