Sushmita Sen mourns Miss Universe 1995 Chelsi Smith’s demise

Washington: Bollywood actor and Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen mourned the death of her Miss Universe successor Chelsi Smith, who died on September 8 at the age of 45.

Taking to Twitter, the diva shared a throwback picture of her crowning the late beauty queen, and wrote: “I loved her smile and that generous spirit! Rest in peace my beautiful friend Chelsi Smith.”

Shanna Moakler, who was a runner-up to Smith in the 1995 Miss USA Pageant, also paid a tribute to the beauty queen.

Sharing snaps of the two, Moakler wrote, “Having a hard time writing this.

Found out the news of my good friend passing. I really don’t know how to express to the world what a funny, loving, smart! If it wasn’t for her, her beauty and her energy, her incredible destiny, I wouldn’t even be where I am today.”

According to TMZ, Smith breather her last on Saturday after a prolonged battle with liver cancer.

In 1995, Smith traveled to Namibia and became the first woman from the United States to be Miss Universe in 15 years.
