Guwahati: Syeda Anwara Taimur, former Assam Chief Minister is among the notable names not included in the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC), which was released on July 30.
As per leading news agency reports, Syeda Taimur is currently in Australia with her son and is planning to return India to initiate the process of enlisting her family in the NRC.
“It is sad that my name is not there in the list,” the octogenarian said.
Speaking to News 18, Taimur’s son told “We requested one of our relatives to submit the application for our family’s inclusion in NRC. We will reply and submit forms again.”

At 45, Syeda Taimur became the lone woman and the youngest Chief Minister of Assam. She is also the first Muslim woman to occupy the top post in any state.
Taimur was the Chief Minister of Assam from December 6, 1980, to June 30, 1981. She served as member of the Rajya Sabha in 1988. She was an elected member of the Assam Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1972, 1978, 1983, and 1991.
She is a leader of the Indian National Congress party in Assam and a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
It was reported earlier that the names of former President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed’s kin also do not figure in the final draft of National Register of Citizens.
The final draft of the NRC published on July 30 touted to be a proof of Assamese citizenship had excluded the names of more than 40 lakh people.
