Syrian Foreign Minister to meet Indian leaders

New Delhi: Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Walid Al Moualem will arrive here tomorrow on a four-day visit during which he will hold talks with leaders here, in the backdrop of escalating air strikes against ISIS by Russia.

Moualem, who is Minister of Foreign Affair, will discuss with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj a host of bilateral issues besides the situation in his conflict ridden country.

His visit comes at a time when major players, including the US, are pushing for a dialogue to end the crisis.

More than 300,000 people have been killed in Syria in the past four years and seven million have fled to other countries due to the continuing civil war.

The West is pressing for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but Russia and China are against the move.
