Syrian teen attacked in US school toilet

A video of a student in purple attacking a Hijab-clad girl in a high school bathroom caused outrage online.

The incident happened in the Chartiers Valley School District, southwest of Pittsburgh.

The video of the violent incident caught on camera by other students showed a blond-haired girl wearing a lavender sweater arguing with a 14-year-old Syrian teen, who was wearing a hijab, then allegedly attacking her.

The words exchanged weren’t totally clear but the blond-haired girl could be heard saying, “You’re lucky you’re from another language because I will crush you, [expletive].”

Council on American-Islamic Relations or CAIR, Pittsburg said the victim hospitalized with a concussion. “The Muslim student was treated later for a concussion and severe bruising. Criminal charges are pending.”

The video went viral across social media platforms and garnered online support seeking justice for the victim who reportedly lived in a Syrian refugee camp two years before moving to the United States.

The Chartiers Valley School District has released a statement, which read: “Chartiers Valley School District does not condone or tolerate violence of any kind and will enforce consequences to the fullest extent. The District considers matters of student safety and security to be of utmost importance and strives to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for all of its students and staff.”

As per reports in the media, possible charges and disciplinary action were pending against the blond student and “is suspended from school until Thursday.”
