NEW DELHI: A local Bharatiya Janata Party functionary, his three sons and another person held for allegedly killing a woman Congress worker.
Investigations into the murder of 22-year-old Twinkle Dagre, a resident of Banganga area have revealed that the five men from Indore arrested in connection with the crime took inspiration from a 2015 Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer Bollywood film ‘Drishyam’ in which the police are misled by a killer.
The accused identified as 65-year-old BJP functionary Jagdish Karotia, his three sons Ajay (36), Vijay (38), Vinay (31) and their friend Neelesh Kashyap (28).
According to media reports, Jagdish and Dagre were allegedly having an illicit relationship. Dagre wanted to marry and live with Jagdish, which was not acceptable in the latter’s family and causing trouble.
“Due to family discord, Karotiya and his sons plotted to kill Twinkle Dagre. They strangulated her on October 16, 2016 and later burnt her body.”
“We have come to know that the accused had watched the film Drishyam before planning the murder. Inspired by a movie scene, they buried the body of a dog at one place. They spread the word that someone had buried a human body in this pit,” Indore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harinarayanchari Mishra quoted as saying to reporters, as per a leading news agency.
“When the police dug up the pit, the remains of the dog were recovered. This had misled police investigation,” he said.
The DIG said there were several other reasons were the police was misled.
“Twinkle had left her house in a huff on 16th morning and she had sent text messages to Jagdish complaining about her parents.
“Also she had registered a case of beating against her father, and also registered four other complaints against him, so it appeared that the deceased had a grudge against her parents and not the Karotias,” the official said.
“Again to mislead the police, Ajay Karotia took the deceased’s mobile to Barwaha and activated it. Barwaha was chosen because the deceased had been engaged to a boy from Barwaha and police wasted quite some time investigating the fiancée,” reported Hindustan Times.
