Tariq Anwar’s ‘ghar wapsi’ in Congress likely

New Delhi: Tariq Anwar may rejoin Congress after 19 years. He along with Sharad Pawar and PA Sangma had revolted against the then Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on grounds of her foreign origins.

Tariq Anwar resigned from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday. He was holding the post of national general secretary.

According to highly placed sources in Congress, Tariq had been in touch with senior Congress leaders in New Delhi for the last several months and Congress leadership has given him an open offer to return to his original party. Tariq had served on key posts while he was in Congress earlier.

Tariq represented Katihar constituency in the Lok Sabha five times. Many Congress leaders hailed Tariq’s bold step on Rafale deal and said he has supported Congress’s view on the arms deal.
