Hyderabad: After the dissolution of Telangana State Assembly, the functioning of EVM has become the topic of discussion once again.
It may be mentioned that during the counting of votes in Delhi University Elections, voters voted against serial number 10 whereas the total number of candidates contesting was only 8. If NOTA is included, the number becomes 9. Despite this, serial number 10 was included which was very surprising.
In the next 2-3 months, there is every possibility that elections would be held in Telangana in which EVMs will be used.
Political parties demanded for the restoration of old system of using ballot papers but Election Commission had assured that transparency would be maintained. It has declared that in order to remove the apprehensions of voters, VVPAT facility would be provided.
It is essential for the voters to ensure the inclusion of their names in the voter list. They should also ensure through VVPAT that the vote has been cast as per their choice.
Working of VVPAT:
Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) basically provides confirmation to the voters about the vote he/she cast. Its main purpose is to detect alleged election frauds or malfunction.
