Telangana Bonalu attract Delhiites for two days

To reflect its age-old culture and traditions in the national capital, the  Telangana State government conducted a two-day Bonalu festivities in Delhi that culminated on Sunday.

A committee of Mahankali Simhavahini Temple of Lal Darwaja of Hyderabad conducted the Bonalu in Telangana Bhavan and the adjoining streets in the national capital that attracted people. A team of 150 artistes participated in the State festival of Bonalu even as women carried Bonalu – pots decorated with vermillion, turmeric and Neem branches attracted the Delhiites in a big way. After performing special pujas, the participants demonstrated Bonalu festivities in Delhi streets for about one-and-a-half hour and returned to Telangana Bhavan.

 Similarly Pothu Rajus’ performance, coupled with dance and drum beats were all cynosure on the occasion that reflected Telangana culture and tradition. The Telanganaites in Delhi too attended the ritual and enjoyed the festivities. Later, Manik Prabhu, advisor of the temple committee said a team of 150 artistes participated in the Bonalu festivities. “Last year, we conducted the Bonalu and will do even better next year”, he said. Telangana special representative Dr Venugopala Chary, Telangana Bhavan Assistant Commissioner G Rammohan and staff, Telangana Culture department staff helped conduct Bonalu in Delhi in a very grand manner, Manik Prabhu maintained.
