Telangana Congress calls emergency meeting

Hyderabad (Telangana): In the light of a possible preponing of polls in Telangana, the Congress in the state has called for an emergency meeting, and said that they are prepared for an early election.

Congress spokesperson Sravan Dasoju said, “Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, President Uttam Kumar Reddy has called for an emergency meeting in which we took a decision to have flag hoisting ceremonies for over a week time across Telangana in almost 10,000 villages. We have also received directions to prepare for the elections and verify the voter list. We also discussed constituting a manifesto committee and also a cabinet committee. We are all set to face this election. KC Rao is afraid that the Congress party will come to power.”

On September 6, Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan had dissolved the state assembly following the recommendation from K Chandrashekhar Rao-led cabinet. The Governor, however, asked Rao to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the new government is formed.

Rao, who is popularly known as KCR, met the Governor after the cabinet meeting and informed him of his government’s decision.

Soon after that, Rao held a press conference and announced that his party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will contest the elections alone and will kickstart its election campaign from tomorrow.

Rao became the first Chief Minister of Telangana in 2014. The state was formally inaugurated on June 2 in the same year.
