Telangana: “Internships” made compulsory for engineering students – Here’re the details

Hyderabad: Now, students have to complete internships during their engineering courses. This new rule will be applicable from the academic year 2018-19. It can be considered as one of the biggest steps to improve the quality of engineering education in Telangana State.

According to the report published in Telangana Today, students of engineering have to complete internships in the industry either after completing the second year or third year of the course.

It may be mention that currently, many students complete their mini and major projects in the final year of the engineering. However, only a few students seriously work on their projects whereas rest of the students buy it from the institutes.

It is also reported that as per the model curriculum of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), out of 160 credits, 15 are meant for project work, seminar and internships in the industry. Now, internship of 6-8 weeks is mandatory for engineering student.

Talking on it, Mr. Navin Mittal, Commissioner of Technical Education told that it is mandatory for students to complete internships for the duration of 6-8 weeks. It will be applicable from the next academic year.

He further said that internship has been made compulsory for students belonging to polytechnic colleges also. However, the duration of internship for them is 4-6 weeks.
