Telangana: MBBS seats increased in the State

Hyderabad: MBBS seats in the medical college of TS for the academic year 2019-20 have been increased.

It may be mentioned that Medical Council of India (MCI) has accorded permission for starting three new government medical colleges in Nalgonda and Suryapet Districts. In the same manner, MCI also permitted P. Mahindra Reddy Medical College, Chivella, Mamata Medical College, Bachupally and Surabhi Medical College, Siddipet in private sector.

Authentic sources indicated that at the rate of 150 MBBS seats for each college, in all, 750 additional seats have been granted.

It may be mentioned that last year, Malla Reddy Medical College, Hyderabad and Mahaveer Medical College, Vikharabad were also given permission by MCI to start these colleges from the year 2019-20.

It may be mentioned that after the formation of Telangana State, during the past five years, 12 new medical colleges were setup which include four govt. medical colleges, two in Mehboob Nagar and two in Siddipet. The permission for these medical colleges have been renewed this year.

It may be recalled that in 2016, ESI had setup a medical college at Erragadda.

In this way, in 10 Govt. medical colleges in Telangana, 1550 MBBS seats are available and 3050 MBBS seats in 22 private medical colleges. In this manner, the total number of MBBS seats has gone upto 4600.

50% of these seats in private medical colleges and 100% seats in Govt. medical colleges will be filled through Convener Quota. In this way, 3075 MBBS seats will be available under convener quota.
