Telangana: Prepaid electricity meters to be installed soon – Here’re the details

Hyderabad: Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) is making an attempt to convert domestic consumers postpaid meters to prepaid meters. In order to encourage consumers to shift to prepaid meters, the discom has decided to give discounts to them.

According to the report published in TOI, TSSPDCL has shifted its focus toward domestic consumers after witnessing success of prepaid meters in government offices in Greater Hyderabad.

It may be mentioned that last year, the discom had installed 10500 meters in various government departments.

As per the details, consumers can recharge the meters as per their needs. The minimum amount of recharge is Rs. 50.

Mr. G. Raghuma Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of TSSPDCL said that this meter will be made available in the entire the State in the phased manner. He also said that it will be beneficial for the one who wants to keep a tab on the bill. Conversion of post-paid meters to pre-paid is optional, he added.

It is also reported that by March 2019, 8800 prepaid meters will be installed in Jeedimetla.

The only hurdle in implementing this plan is the cost of the meter. The cost of a single-phase connection and triple-phase meters are Rs.6000 and Rs. 10000 respectively.
