Telangana’s request for AIIMS has been ignored by the centre

Hyderabad: The Union budget 2018 has evoked mixed responses from different sectors and the health care experts and doctors from Telangana have been disappointed as the centre ignored the state’s demands for allocation of funds for setting up AIIMS like institution in Telangana.

According to the news reported in Telangana Today, there are few positives in terms of universal health scheme for 10 crore households with a coverage of Rs 5 lakh, new medical colleges and wellness centres are some of the positives in the sector.

Last month the state minister of health has met Union Minister for health and family welfare to request the allocation of fund for setting up AIIMS like institution.

Dr Narasinga Reddy, President of IMA Telangana said that “Proposal to upgrade district hospitals into medical colleges is a welcome move. However, there was a need to allocate more funds to develop wellness centres. The ministry has ignored AIIMS proposal, which is injustice to Telangana.”
