Hyderabad: Telangana Urban Development and IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday said the driver-cum owner scheme will be encouraged and payment hike would also be considered.

“It’s a unique initiative by which driver cum owner as a self employment scheme will be encouraged. The higher the number of vehicles engaged in any government departments are paid Rs 25,000 through uniform policy, definitely we will check into this issue and increase the payment. We will also try to bring up this in other corporations like Warangal, Karimnagar etc,” he said in the state assembly.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) started a new scheme for unemployed youth in Hyderabad by provided New Maruti Dzire Cars and it was named as “Driver Cum Owner Scheme.”

Under the Waste Management Initiative, the GHMC has distributed 44 lakh bins to 22.02 lakh households and 2,000 Swachh Auto Tippers in all 150 wards for collection of wet and dry wastes from the doorstep of every house.

“Swachh autos in Hyderabad is the only of its kind in India where we have provided 2000 autos. With this we are setting a bench mark and inspiring other cities as this has increased the garbage collection thus keeping city clean,” he added.

Under the ‘Swachh Survekshan’ a total of 500 towns and cities will be ranked and rewarded with awards for active implementation of the mission initiatives in a timely and innovative manner.

The GHMC will be conducting mass awareness campaigns through ‘Gandhian philosophy’ (to request for a drastic change constantly in the system). The idea is to encourage citizens’ participation for improving the sanitation levels of the city.
