Muzaffarnagar: In an alleged incident couple of months ago, a group of Dalit men had replaced the images and idols of Hindu gods and goddesses with photographs of B. R Ambedkar from the houses of Dalits, following which a Dalit youth was beaten up on the incident’s ground.
A video went viral on 14 January, showing Vipin Kumar, beaten up by three men in UP’s Muzaffarnagar after one month they were subjected to the accusation of disrespecting Hindu gods.
In the video circulated Vipin was abused and coerced to chant ‘Jai Mata Di’.

This was not the only incident taken place against the community. Previously Dalit Youths were allegedly assaulted for sporting a moustache in Gujarat. The atrocities are widespread in India against the minorities.
The case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against accused Rahul, Dhiraj, Jodha and Kaku, who were absconding, said Circle Officer Yogender Singh.
However, cases are not usually filed under this law by the police. A timely legal action can reduce such incidents on Dalits.
