Proven tips to Get rid of mosquitos!

Mosquitoes can be a real nuisance, leaving itching bite marks and keeping us awake at night. The irritation caused by the bites can be quite distressing. In India, more than 40 million people suffer from mosquito diseases annually.

There are a number of diseases borne by mosquitoes. They are malaria, filaria, dengue, brain fever and yellow fever. Over two million cases of malaria alone are reported. Even more astonishing is the fact that India spends 100 million dollars on malaria. In spite of spending so much, the diseases continue to explode from time to time.

In India, it is practically impossible to keep them away for long just by using sprays, coils or electronic devices. Although, most of these mosquitoes are not disease-carriers, even the itchiness and red bumps they cause want us to keep them away.

So, if you are looking for ways to stop these constant attacks every night, we bring you these effective home remedies that you can put to use and stop mosquitoes from invading your houses.

Neem and lavender oil: Neem never fails to outdo itself. Studies have shown that neem oil is very effective in keeping mosquitoes away–ten times more than any chemical laden-coils or vaporizers. Not only is neem anti-fungal and anti-bacterial but also anti-viral. You can combine neem and lavender oil in equal parts before applying it to your skin.

Lemon and cloves: Slice a lemon and insert some cloves in it. This technique has been hailed as one of the best to keep flies and mosquitoes away by many.

Lemon eucalyptus oil: Dr Immo Hansen, a biology professor at New Mexico State University said, “If you are not a synthetic cream person and find sprays ineffective, you can actually use lemon eucalyptus oil”. This will be effective and make mosquitoes stay away from you.

Basil or tulsi: Have a plant of tulsi in your courtyard? Bring it to your room or plant another one. Tulsi is believed to be great for making tea but mosquitoes detest it. It releases an odour that repels these pesky insects.

Garlic: According to Home Remedy, crushing a few cloves of garlic and boiling the crushed garlic in water for some time keeps mosquitoes at bay. Pouring the solution into a spray bottle and squirting it around the room will most definitely repel mosquitoes.

Permethrin – According to Neeta Connally, an entomologist at Western Connecticut State University, if you spray permethrin on your clothes, it can act as a tick repellent. However, according to many experts, if you spray it on your clothes, it also repels mosquitoes and flies.

This is a pesticide that repels insects and is similar to the flowering chrysanthemum plant. The good thing about permethrin is that it just needs to be sprayed on your clothes. If you have a sensitive skin and like to stay outdoors, this option may be suitable for you.
