TN: IT sleuths conduct raids at Highway contractor’s firm

IT sleuths have conducted raids at Highways contractor and SPK group’s managing director Nagarajan Seyyadurai.

Nagarajan’s firm carried out highway contracts in Tamil Nadu, Madurai, Chennai and Arupukottai reported TNM.

According to IT officials the raids were carried out across 30 locations after the police sleuths received a tip-off on alleged tax evasion.

The IT sleuths were searching for documents and cash belonging to Nagarajan who is alleged to be a benami of CM Edappadi Palaniswami who is also in charge of the Departure of Highways and Minor Ports.

CM Palaniswami has served as the Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports until he was elected as CM in 2017. He still continues to manage that department.

The DMK had lodged a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) alleging corruption in the allocation of five highways contracts project to various firms owned by CM’s relatives.

In their complaint last month, the DMK said a Rs 200-crore six-laning of the Vandalur- Walajabad project was given to SPK & Co Expressway whose managing director is a claimed to be close to CM’s family as well as some DMK leaders.

Similar allegations were made by DMK on the reaming four Projects.

The Laning of the Tirunelveli-Sengottai-Kollam highway on SH 39 original estimation was Rs 407.6 crore but was later revised to Rs 720 crore alleged DMK, by a firm Venkatachalapathy Constructions.

The DMK has also alleged that this firm is owned by P Subramaniam (EPS’s son Mithun’s father-in-law) as well as his partner Nagarajan.

The DMK alleged another Rs 2000 crore contract for the maintenance of all State Highways in Ramanathapuram, Thiruvallur, Krishnagiri and Virudhunagar districts was also awarded to the same SPK & Company Expressway.
