Transgender Samithi sad with inclusion in OBC list

Telangana Transgender Samithi (TTS) has said its community people were not happy for including them in the OBC category.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, TTS leaders Vaijayanthi, Rachana, Chandramukhi, Bittu and others said the Bill with two percent reservation in employment and protection of rights of transgender community people passed in the Rajya Sabha was changed as OBC and cancelled the reservations in the Lok Sabha. They expressed happiness over proposal to identify the children of transgender community and extend welfare schemes to them. They also said children of transgenders will face discrimination, dishonor and hence the face of the Bill should be changed and extend help in other forms.

They said they were against the Committee appointed by the Centre to identify the transgenders by conducting tests to give certificate. They said the government should consider their affidavits got from the Courts and certificates given by the hospitals. They said the Centre must appoint a transgender, Hijra and Sivasathu as members of the Committee.

Demanding that the State and Central governments initiate steps to provide jobs to transgenders in government and private sectors, they lamented that there were no proper laws for their sake. They demanded that the Telangana State government set up a Telangana Transgender Commission and initiate action against those who attack transgender community members. They alleged that the rulers were neglecting in implementing Supreme Court directions on NALSA. They stressed the need of review of the Bill introduced in the Rajya Sabha. (NSS)
